Hubcape Frequently Asked Questions

Why did Beepscore "retire" Hubcape?

2013-10-03

When Hubcape was released, it was the best way to view Pachube feeds from an iPhone.

As Pachube changed to Cosm and then to Xively, they improved their mobile web views.

Xively's changes in May 2013 partially broke Hubcape.

Today, Hubcape v1.3 would not offer many benefits compared to viewing Xively.com in mobile Safari.

So rather than fix Hubcape, I've decided to remove it from sale in the Apple App Store in order to develop other products.

How does LogMeIn changing Cosm to Xively affect Hubcape?

On approximately 2013-05-13, LogMeIn changed Cosm to Xively and made other changes.

These changes partially broke Hubcape.

2013-05-15

I removed Hubcape from the Apple App Store.

This way I hope to avoid disappointing any new users.

What's new in version 1.3

2013-03-29

Update for change from Pachube to Cosm.

Pull to refresh a feed.

Improved history graphs.

Shows your private feed graphs.

Release Notes for previous versions:

Version 1.2 Bug fixes:

Updated to be compatible with iOS 5.

In iOS 5, Hubcape v 1.1 displays some feed ID numbers incorrectly. For example feed 34318 displays as -31218. Tapping on such a row pops up an alert "Feed ID must be all digits".

1. Correctly stores newly entered large Feed ID numbers rather than converting them to a negative value.

2. Automatically migrates a user's database, converting previous negative Feed ID numbers to correct positive values.  This should eliminate the need for a user to manually delete and re-enter their Feed IDs.

Version 1.1 Bug fixes:

Supports Pachube datastreams with non-numeric IDs including IDs with letters or a hyphen.
Gets history graphs for datastreams with non-numeric IDs.
Supports datastream IDs that don't start at zero and aren't consecutively numbered.
In Feed view, correctly sorts datastream rows.
Doesn't crash if multiple feeds have identical title and tags.

Version 1.1 Improvements:

Feeds view rows increase height to show long feed titles.
Feed view rows are taller to show each datastream ID, tags, and current value.
Cell background images use a more gradual gradient.

How is a graph displayed?

Hubcape v1.0-v1.2 requests a graph from Pachube as a .png image.

Example requests:

Datastream 0

https://www.pachube.com/feeds/1228/datastreams/0/history.png

Datastream 2

https://www.pachube.com/feeds/1228/datastreams/2/history.png?w=320&h=331&c=33cc66&b=true&g=true&t=MW&s=2&r=3

You can request a graph from Pachube by entering a URL similar to the examples above in a web browser.

If Pachube does not have a graph, it returns an image with

"pachube graph not found!".
